They attempt to have you, one of "the Clueless", new people in town, from the Prime Material Plane, join their faction and follow their philosophy. Whether you do choose to or not is your choice. One that will alter your life. Or you can continue focusing solely on your personal quest. But no one is saying you cannot do both. And these faction disputes may interfere with your personal quest if escalated. Perhaps it is a good idea to join one of these and help ensure their victory, and in doing so ensure the fate of your ideology and worldview and your own safety in this great City that is hostile to outsiders.
